Aim of the lecture

The students will learn how to systematize the fundamentals and the theoretical concepts of optics and how to apply them towards the solution of corresponding problems.

Topics

Light-matter interaction, optical Bloch equations, optics, resonators, laser types, laser theory, basics of laser spectroscopy, selected applications (e.g., ultra-short light pulses, laser cooling, optical switching and optical communication, nonlinear optics)

Lern- und Qualifikationsziele:

Die Studierenden können die Grundlagen und die theoretische Beschreibung der kohärenten Licht-Materie-Wechselwirkung systematisieren und sind in der Lage, diese zur Lösung von einschlägigen Fragestellungen anzuwenden.
